Andy Martin is a British freelance flautist, currently based in north London. He trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and Guildhall School of Music and Drama respectively, graduating from both colleges with Distinction. Following his time at Guildhall, he also engaged in a fellowship programme cataloguing and archiving the library of celebrated flautist Geoffrey Gilbert.
Alongside his studies, Andy had the opportunity to work with a wide range of different organisations and create his own opportunities to share music with new audiences. This included forming and managing RepCo Sinfonia, a vibrant young orchestra with whom he produced a series of successful public performances paired with outreach and community projects with local schools in the area.
Andy now enjoys a vibrant and exciting freelance career across the UK. Some highlights include performing with the London Symphony Orchestra in Trafalgar Square, recording for BBC Radio 3 with the Klei Quintet, performing in a showcase of new works at Wigmore Hall and playing in the UK language premiere of Daphne de Maurier’s Rebecca at the Charing Cross Theatre.
Throughout his career Andy has developed a passion for cross-art collaborations and has a great interest in the way that this can help to make ‘classical music’ more accessible to new audiences. Alongside performance, Andy has a management role within Jacksons Lane, a north London arts centre which is at the forefront of contemporary circus performance and community engagement. This work has provided a great opportunity to meet and work with lots of different artists, and thanks to these friendships made, he is currently working on developing a contemporary circus piece with a full orchestral score.
